WE ARE NEEDED NOW MORE THAN EVER BEFORE

As San Francisco’s economy boomed so did the percentage of low-income families. Although abuse and neglect occur at every economic level, in every neighborhood and zip code, poverty and income disparity dramatically increase the risk of child maltreatment.

Last year more low-income families than ever came to us for support.

Of the clients we served in 2014, 89% were low income or lived in extreme poverty

THE WORK TO END CHILD ABUSE CONTINUES

The San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center supports local families by providing services directly to children and their caregivers, from counseling to weekly community dinners. We support the greater Bay Area through advocacy, community education, and by partnering with governments and nonprofits.

EVERYONE HAS A ROLE TO PLAY IN ENDING CHILD ABUSE

The San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center cannot end child abuse alone. We stand with our partners in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area to protect our community’s children.

We work with schools to train parents and child-serving professionals how to protect children, and teach children how to stay safe. We partner with community organizations to lead workshops, facilitate trainings, and provide services to families. We engage volunteers to give their time in our therapeutic playroom, on our 24/7/365 TALK Line, and at community and family events.

EVERY FAMILY WANTS TO PROTECT THEIR CHILDREN

Our new program of intensive services, called Integrated Family Services, helps vulnerable families in building their protective factors — protective factors proven to create strong families and prevent abuse. By using the protective factors as a standard set of goals, we are able to create individualized service plans for each family.

In 2014, we expanded this program from a pilot of 12 to more than 60 at-risk families. Our personalized, wraparound approach along with our (early) positive results have garnered local and national interest. In the coming year, we will explore how to share our model and our learnings.

In the coming year, the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center will continue to heal the hurt, educate the uninformed, and fight for every child’s future.

By developing tools and curriculum to train others on how to implement our proven programs, we can broaden our impact and effect change outside of our geography.

LEADING THE NEW CHILDREN’S ADVOCACY CENTER OF SAN FRANCISCO

Building on a long history of collaboration, we partnered with nonprofits and government agencies to establish the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and transform the city’s child abuse response system. The CAC unites counselors, doctors, investigators, social workers, and prosecutors to protect child victims, stop abuse, and pave the way from trauma to healing.

The CAC opened its doors in February 2014 and was accredited in October 2014 by National Children’s Alliance, certifying that our work meets best-in-class standards. We continue to work with our partners to innovate and improve citywide response systems to protect our community’s children.
